Prioritizing School Attendance - Every Day Counts. Start Strong, Stay Strong
Why is school attendance important?
School attendance is essential to every student’s success, and absences can easily lead to academic trouble and create gaps in relationships with friends. CJUSD encourages all families to minimize absences. Families should get their children to school as often as possible, on time, and align vacations and appointments with the school calendar to avoid unnecessary absences. Each day missed at school is a missed day of instruction, a day of classroom interaction with students and teachers.
What can you do?
-
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine
-
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before
-
Keep your child healthy and make sure your child has the required shots
-
Introduce your children to their teachers and classmates before school starts
-
Develop backup plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor or another parent.
-
Try to schedule medical appointments and extended trips when school isn't in session
-
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors and other parents for advice on how to make your child feel comfortable and excited about learning.
-
If you child must stay home due to illness, ask the teacher for resources and ideas to continue learning at home.

Building Stronger Attendance, Together
Center Joint Unified School District and its schools are proud of our ongoing partnership with EveryDay Labs to help every student attend school consistently and be ready to learn. Through this collaboration, families receive friendly reminders, encouragement, and tips to help students be in class, on time, every day.
Since partnering with EveryDay Labs, we’ve seen our attendance rate increase and our chronic absenteeism decrease. A student is considered chronically absent if they miss 10% or more of the school year — that’s just 2 days each month, even if the absences are excused. By building strong attendance habits now, we can keep students on track all year long.
If you have questions about this program or your student’s attendance, please contact your school office or the Student and Family Support Services office at (916) 338-6387.

21-Day September Attendance Challenge from September 2–30
Why September? Even though school started in August, September is when routines really settle in for students, families, and staff. It’s also Attendance Awareness Month across the nation, making it the perfect time to focus on building positive attendance habits. Research shows that students who miss just a few days in September are much more likely to struggle with attendance later in the year. By starting strong now, we’re helping all students stay on track for success.
